MALANG, April 16, 2026 – In an effort to align academic learning outcomes with real-world industrial developments, the Bachelor of Pharmacy Study Program at Universitas Brawijaya (UB) organized an industrial visit to PT Balatif-Herbal Division, Malang. This activity was attended by students enrolled in the Standardization of Traditional Medicine elective course. The field visit was designed to provide practical insights into regulatory implementation, manufacturing procedures, and quality testing of natural medicines on an industrial scale. The delegation from UB Pharmacy was warmly welcomed by the team at PT Balatif-Herbal Division.
Throughout the event, students were invited to directly observe the entire production workflow at PT Balatif-Herbal Division. The main focus of this visit was to observe how standardization parameters—which have been studied theoretically in lectures—are strictly applied in the field. This process encompasses Quality Assurance (QA) of crude drug (simplisia) raw materials, efficient extraction processes, and Quality Control (QC) of finished products to ensure they meet safety and efficacy standards. Through direct observation of the implementation of Good Traditional Medicine Manufacturing Practices (GTMMP / CPOTB) at PT Balatif-Herbal Division, students gained an understanding that modernization and standardization are key to ensuring that Indonesian traditional medicines can compete and be scientifically recognized, both nationally and internationally. In addition to a plant tour of the production facilities and laboratories, the visit also featured an interactive discussion session between the students and industrial practitioners.
Through this industrial visit, it is hoped that a strong synergy and collaboration with industrial partners like PT Balatif-Herbal Division can continue to be built. This partnership is expected to not only enrich students’ practical experience but also open up broader opportunities for cooperation in the research and development of products derived from Indonesia’s rich natural resources.
