SURABAYA, 9 April 2026 – In an effort to provide profound practical insights into the application of pharmaceutical sciences in law enforcement, the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya (FKUB) organized an academic visit to the Forensic Laboratory (Labfor) of the East Java Regional Police (Polda Jatim) in Surabaya. The event was attended by students currently enrolled in the Forensic Pharmacy elective course.
The primary objective of this visit was to introduce students to the real-world responsibilities of a pharmacist in the forensic field, particularly in the aspects of toxicological analysis, examination of narcotics, psychotropics, and other addictive substances, as well as the identification of hazardous chemicals in criminal evidence. This activity serves to bridge the gap between classroom theories on instrumental analysis and forensic analytical chemistry with actual field applications.
During the visit, the delegation of students and supervising lecturers received a warm welcome from the expert team of the East Java Police Forensic Laboratory. Students were given the valuable opportunity to tour state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and engage in direct discussions regarding the workflow of evidence handling, preparation techniques for biological and non-biological samples, and the operation of advanced analytical instruments utilized to support scientific crime investigation.
Through this educational experience, students are expected to broaden their perspectives regarding career opportunities and the strategic contributions of pharmacy graduates within law enforcement and national forensic institutions. Furthermore, this visit is envisioned to motivate students to pursue innovative research in the field of forensic toxicology.
