HISTORY OF PHARMACEUTICAL LABORATORY PHARMACY STUDY PROGRAM, MEDICAL FACULTY, UNIVERSITY OF BRAWIJAYA

 

Pharmaceutical laboratory of Pharmacy Study Program, Medical Faculty, University of Brawijaya which is located on Jl. Veteran Malang East Java was inaugurated on October 2, 2012 by Drs. Bambang Sidhartha, MS., Apt. as the Head of Pharmacy Study Program. This laboratory gives encouragement for the academic community of Pharmacy Study Program in studying pharmaceutical science more through activities in the laboratory.

There are 4 laboratory rooms that are used to support teaching and learning activities in the field of Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacognosy and Phytotherapy, Pharmaceutical, Community Pharmacy, and Pharmaceutical Chemicals. Activities in every field of pharmaceutical science in utilizing labs are as follows:

  1. Field of Clinical Pharmacy uses laboratory for doing practicum on:
  • Pharmacokinetics (studying the drug action and the result of the drug in the body)
  • Clinical Problem Based Learning (discussion on case and management therapy in clinical pharmacy)
  1. Field of Community Pharmacy uses laboratory for doing practicum on:
  • Prescription I (preparation of pharmaceutical dosage forms based on prescription)
  • Prescription II (prescription reception, prescription preparation, and patient counseling)
  • Community Problem Based Learning (discussion on pharmacy cases in pharmacy community)
  1. Field of Pharmacognosy and Phytotherapy uses laboratory for doing practicum on:
  • Pharmaceutical Botany (anatomy and morphology of medicinal plants)
  • Pharmacognosy (identification of secondary substances of plants)
  • Phytochemicals (analysis of compounds from medicinal plants)
  • Phytotherapy (efficacy study of medicinal plants in patient treatment)
  1. Field of Pharmaceutical uses laboratory for doing practicum on:
  • Pharmaceutical physics (study the physical properties of chemical compounds associated with technology of dosage forms)
  • Pharmaceutical Technology of Liquid, Semisolid, and Sterile Dosage Forms (to learn the methods of manufacture and evaluation on liquid, semisolid, and sterile dosage forms)
  • Pharmaceutical Technology of Solid Dosage Forms (to learn the methods of manufacture and evaluation of solid dosage forms)

In addition to practical activities that support the implementation of teaching and learning process, pharmaceutical laboratory is also used for implementing various research conducted by students and lecturers. Research conducted by students are covering final project research and Student Creativity Program.

In conducting the activities, all parties must adhere to standard procedures applied in pharmaceutical laboratory. It is intended that every activity in the laboratory can be conducive, safe, and comfortable.
